Quiet, foo'!

OP: Which kind of motherboard do you have? H67? Z68? Z77? If it's the same chipset as the CPU, you should be fine.

If you have a Z68, H67 or P67 motherboard, you will be able to put any 2nd gen Intel LGA 1155 processor into it (e.g., 2500k, 2600K)
If you have a Z77 motherboard, you should be able to support any 3rd gen intel processor, e.g., 3400, 3770K

That's some nice evidence you've got there to back your point up.

For reference,
http://www.cpusolutions.com/store/pc/Intel-LGA-1155-CPU-c453.htm
http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%201155%20(LGA1155).html
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?N=100007671%20600095610&IsNodeId=1&Submit=ENE

LGA 1155 motherboards easily support I3s, I5s and I7s

EDIT: That is to say quad-core, standard I7's

I7 Extremes use a different motherboard, but that's not what the OP was after.
