Greetings all!
First want to say hi to everyone here. I have been reading this forum for a long time and it has been handy for troubleshooting systems! I decided to sign up and post my first thread after I could not find any answer in the months that I have had this problem.
Info:
Windows 7 64bit Professional (With Service Pack 1).
Motherboard: Foxconn H61MXL-K
Mouse: Logitech MX 518
Mouse: Cheap Genius Mouse
The problem I am having is that the mouse on my pc disconnect randomly. Often it is in games, but it has happened that it is while browsing the internet too. Sometimes it will disconnect for a second, then turn back on, other times it will completely die. Now when this happens, the red laser under the mouse start flashing, like completely turn off, and on. It does this a few times, then stay on for a while and does it again, over and over, but the pointer does not work at all.
Now the quick temporary fix I have discovered is to use the keyboard and go to device manager - universal serial bus controllers - Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and disable it (There are two there, usually the one with the disable option is the one the mouse is connected too) and then re-enable it. This instantly fixes the problem, but usually not for long. Also what works is to just restart the computer.
Also, I have never had the problem where I come back to the computer after being AFK for hours and the mouse refuse to move or something. Now if it disconnects and reconnects while I am away, I won't know of course, but I have never notice any problems when returning to my computer.
Here is what I have done so far:
-Reinstall the drivers (Uninstall, restart and let windows install it again). This usually work for about 2 days, then it starts again.
-Tried a different mouse... worked fine for a little bit, then started again.
-Installed the official logitech drivers... same thing.
-Disable Power Management for USB Root Hubs
-Remove anything related to virtual box (One forum mentioned that might the problem, and since I have installed it in the past, I uninstalled it.)
-Scanned for viruses and malware.
-Checked Event viewer, no errors at all at the time the mouse disconnects.
-Disable or Enable "Legacy USB" in the bios as suggested on another thread.
-sfc /scannow detected nothing wrong.
-Temperatures are nothing extreme.
-Tried plugging the mouse in different ports, sometime it works for a little while, other times, no problem at all.
-Ran full windows update.
As mentioned before, everything usually works fine for about 2 days, which makes this a pain for trying to find what is wrong because it takes ages before I know if it works again. I can try and use a live cd for linux and see how that works, but like I mentioned, it usually takes around two days.... so far I have not found any method of forcing it to start doing this.
Also worth mentioning, none of my other USB devices do this. A few months back I did have the issue where everything would disconnect and my usb headset will make a massive amount of noise instead of the music playing on the computer. This seems to have stopped though as I did not have this problem since then.
Any advice would be appreciated, or tips on where else to look for this problem. I am getting another mouse sometime soon, so will try that one too for incase there is a problem with both the mice I have.
