I was configuring a router for my sister and while checking her laptops for connectivity I noticed one of the laptops said Microsoft could find NO ANTIVIRUS software. Yet when I looked at Programs, it showed Macafee Agent. Anyone know what this is? TVM!

The McAfee Agent is a software program that is located in the Windows taskbar when the McAfee McAfee Security Center software suite has been installed. The McAfee Agent is set to load when a computer starts up, so it does not need to be started manually. The McAfee Agent includes features such as a virus scan and firewall, as well as the ability to get updates automatically.

Thanks for your reply. The laptop was corporate-owned and her hubby uses it for his job. I was wondering if Macafee Agent is some kind of enterprise security the company put on there? Is it protecting his computer? Why did Microsoft say it cannot find any Antivirus program?

If it is in the programs list, it doesn't mean that it is running, just that it was installed. Maybe its installation is messed up or the corporate software prevents it from running. Is there an icon on the taskbar? What shows up in task manager?

Did you make a spelling mistake?
Is it Macafee Agent or McAfee Agent?
Most spyware disguise themselves as legitimate software, sometimes as antivirus/anti-spyware software using similar sounding names or similar looking logos!
Make sure it is a legit installation of McAfee Agent!
