I need help: my computer connects to the internet just fine, but Windows doesn't
recognize that fact and continues to list the network as not connected. This prevents me from utilizing any network resources such as homegroup or shared printers, etc. I can connect to the internet just fine. I have seen a solution on the web that involves modifying certain registry keys, but it didn't have any effect when I tried it. I have no idea how to fix the problem.

Dell N5010 Laptop
Windows 7 64 Home Premium
Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN

There are several things to look at first.

1) Check the configuration (IP V4) on a computer that does work. Make sure your settings are setup the same. Typically using automatic settings (DHCP) gets it done.

2) If your configuration is the same - can you get to a command prompt and ping the other computers and/or router?

3) You may have previously joined a homegroup and/or workgroup. Check your settings, and leave the homegroup/workgroups you are in now, and see if you can join the current homegroup.
