Hello, Today I decided I would throw out my PS/2 Acer ball mouse (I know, old mouse)
Because I couldn't afford one when I built my new PC now that I had the funds I went out and bought the only mouse I could find that was wired near where I live it is a USB Wired Nexxtech optic mouse.

I unplugged my PS/2 mouse and plugged in my USB mouse and it registered and installed the drivers but the mouse cursor refuses to move, I did several reboots and reattempts and uninstalled the drivers to attempt it again but nothing I do works.

I brought it to my parents PC plugged it in and, apparently thats it, it works the instant it was plugged in.

What is going on here?
any advice on how to make it work?

Clearly you do not know how to read.

I plugged it in, it installed the drivers, and would not allow me to move the cursor, I tried it on my parents PC and it worked fine. They run VISTA, I run Windows 7 Home Premium

So are you saying you installed seperate drivers (maybe it came with a CD) when you connected your mouse ? If so uninstall those drivers and plug the mouse in like you did on your parents PC's also if you haven't try another USB port.

I bought the new mouse.
I took it out of the sealing plastic.
I plugged the USB into one of the 6 Ports I have.
It downloaded the driver for it. HID.Compliant Mouse
It would not move the cursor.

I went to device manager and went to my PS/2 mouse and maybe thought it was the problem
I clicked "Uninstall" and I unplugged it after it was done because Disable was not available like the HID mouse was.

It asked me to restart I restarted and it was still listed in Devices.

I was confused and so I brought my mouse to my parents PC and plugged it in (They also have a USB mouse *Wireless*)

It worked with no problems what so ever.

I unplugged it from theirs an came back to my PC trying to make it work but all my attempts have failed.

My motherboard is ASUS M5A 78L-M LX3

Hi i have the same issue with the same mouse and i have found a few ways around it do you know how to go into the bios? if so then what u need to do is look around in there till you see a few bios listed as USB2.0 and USB Legacy 2.0 also ps/2 mouse will be in there too turn them on. The only other way is to plug the mouse in and just leave it alone for about 15mins i dunno why but that did it for me. i hope this helps you if u haven't already figured the issues out. also while ur in the bios you should check if your mouse is set to full-speed of hi-speed if the usb options didn't work switch it to the other setting and see if that help if not switch it back to the 512mb/s one i believe it is full-speed
