I went to remove a 7800 GT that I had installed in the gateway pc, it was running hot, so I figured I'd remove it so it would run normal. While removing it I had forgotten it had a little catch clip to release it at the edge. Tried pulling on it then realized oh it has a clip. Then when i went to start it with the onboard card plugged in to monitor, the monitor didn't turn on. Then I tried resetting the cmos with the jumpers and still nothing, so then I thought I'd plug old card back in, nothing, tried removing the battery from cmos area, nothing, now when I turn it on, I tried listening to see if you hear windows coming on, and I don't hear it, could I have not followed correct directions for resetting cmos? Or what I'm most afraid of is I fried the mobo while trying pull out the graphics card. I'd hate to buy a mobo off ebay, the replacement ones are like $36, I don't want to replace it if its something I can fix. thanks for any info

the fans and the power light comes on and i hear the hdd making noise just no video coming out of on board graphics or 7800 GT when i plug it in. Could it be the bios, maybe I did the cmos jumper reset wrong. The instructions I found online said, switch the jumper, then turn on power, no lights will come on, leave it on for a minute, turn off, switch jumper back and then turn it on cmos is cleared. I also tried removing the battery for about 30 min

Unplugging things while it is running is never good :/ I had the same issue with a brand new board from amazon. Got everything plugged in and working except the monitor would not show anything. I even used a new graphics card but still nothing. I ended up sending the mobo back. I'm reading that RAM could cause this issue?

Oh I never unplugged anything while it was on. I always turned it off before removing or unplugging. I'll check the ram next, maybe I touched the ram with the card while trying to remove it.

I know I posted this months ago but I'd like to post a follow up. I could never get the old Gateway GT 5694 motherboards graphics to work. So I decided to go ahead and grab a new board and at the same time fix my issue with running hot with the 7800 GT. I had an old case in my closet from a socket 939 build that has 2 120 mm fans (this build is where my 7800 GT came from) so I decided that I'd make a hybrid build with my Gateway pieces and my old case. Instead of getting the same Foxconn bengal rs780 or a used am2+ board I decided on the ASRock N68C-GS FX board because of its backwards compatibility. I planned to do a newer htpc build with a APU (just something to pay bills, watch anime, read manga, some SC2 and TF2 with friends). Now I can just throw in a newer CPU, GPU, and DDR3 when I feel like it instead of doing a whole new build.
