Would a SSD work with any computer?

Someone gave me an alienware desktop but with out a hard drive so my question is that if a SSD would work on my new computer because i tried putting my hard drive from another computer that does work but my alienware desktop wont read my hard drive.

If your motherboard does support solid state drives, you'll get some fast speeds with SATA 3GB/s, but not advertised speeds.

yeah every time i put my seagate hard drive my alienware computer would not read it nd it says insert disk.
so youre telling me i need to buy a copy of windows 7?

yess it has sata ports
but it doesn
this comes up every time with the hard drive put on nd with out it

try moving the dvd drive to the slave port and putting the hdd on the master but this bd is sata1 and its if-fy that it will work with a sata3 ssd. Several sata2 models had a jumper to put them in sata1 mode though. You may need to move the jumper to get that hdd to work.
 
WOW! I haven't heard the name ABIT in a long long time. The company went out of business years ago.

Bad News! Your motherboard is a very old AMD Socket 939 based motherboard. It does not support modern solid state drives. The SATA headers (connectors) on the motherboard are only for hard disk drives and optical drives.
