Decided I want to OC, read a bunch of threads, not just on here and saw that I shouldn't go over 60c Core and 70c socket temps. I am not sure if those are solid numbers to live by. I read a lot of setting and started at 4.4ghz and worked my way down to 4.0 using prime95 and HWmonitor and every temp was over 60 and 70C respectively, even at 4.0.

What are some of your temps, suggestions? I wouldn't mind running a stable 4.4, but if my temp is too high I don't want to risk anything.

specs:
AMD FX-8150 stock
ARCTIC Freezer A30 Extreme (never was able to see what stock temps were with stock fan, put this on when I bought cpu)
Antec 300 case (all 4 fans on high)

I don't remember the exact vcore setting, but I believe at 4.4ghz I was 1.43x and that ran stable. Right now at idle my CPU temp is at 26C and my socket temp is at 36C(if i am looking at the correct temp for socket) but I am stock clock at 3.6. My friend did recommend me reapplying the paste, but my stock temps, I think, are pretty low. Should they be lower?

75 is way too high. There could be a couple reasons why it's so high.

1. Very poorly applied thermal paste
2. Not enough air flow inside the case
3. Heatsink isn't making contact with the CPU (or making poor contact)
4. Bad or defective CPU
5. Fan speed stays low even if at full load

Maybe the first thing you should do is to check the CPU fan speed. See if it's spinning at maximum speed while the CPU is under full load.
You should probably also replace the thermal paste. Here's a good tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hNgFNH7zhQ Make sure you fasten the CPU cooler tight, so it's making good contact.

I just noticed the method of applying the paste, I will redo it later this week, I will leave it 3.6 for now so I dont hurt anything. The only fan connected to the motherboard is the heatsink. So I am assuming the only fan speed it shows in HWMonitor is the heatsink. Its max RPM speed is 1318(1350rpm is max, according to the arctic).

I also noticed a review on newegg just now that said you need to upgrade the fan if you are going to push the system. But he is the only one saying that, the rest of the reviews say its great. If the paste doesnt help I will try a faster fan and see if that does anything.
