Hi, am looking to upgrade to the EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB card and currently have the Sapphire Radeon HD7770 1GB GHz Edition V2. Just wondering if the 650 is overkill for my i3 3220 at 3.3ghz.
Thanks

System:

Corsair 500w bronze 80+

Hi there,

Not at all mate, the i3-3220 may be a dual core part but it is pretty capable for gaming and has reguarly recieved Tom's recommendation at its relevant price point. Some titles are very CPU intensive, like GTA4 and SC2 etc, but i'd say your CPU will keep up with the 650TI quite nicely.

i3-3220 will handle gtx 650 ti boost well don't worry
but u will have to consider a cpu upgrade soon because games now are recommending a quad core cpu maybe sometime after the release of haswell

What is the monitor resolution?
With this class of card resolution is very important, especially if you use AA, the 7770 has a narrow 128 bit memory interface and suffers a heavy framerate loss with AA applied, if you're having issues try turning AA down or off.
The GTX650 Boost has a wider memory bus and higher frequencies than stock 650Tis' making it faster overall and less likely to suffer heavy framerate penalties with AA enabled:

Depending on the games you play and resolution, you might want to push it up another tier and look towards the GTX660/HD7870 class instead.

This is my monitor: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21362
Games ill be playing mostly are like ARMA2, Dayz, GTA IV, maybe a little BF3.
I'm not a serious gamer, just looking for a decent card that's capable and has a good performance to price ratio. Doesn't have to be top of the line, just better than average so I have the power if needed.
Thanks
