do I blame the weather?

Ok, so I built my own gaming system, before my card was in a stock pc, and hit as high as 82C when gaming. I knew it needed more air. So I built a new pc altogether, with better airflow, I used to idle at 28 to 32 C, back in February & March. I now idle at 50 to 52 C*not done gaming in about a week, besides web games. It stays around 51 to 55 when I have multiple tabs open.

Is this because this is now May in Chicago and weather is warming up? Or cause I stuck a 2nd monitor to my pc? And should I be concerned? or relax, this is normal?

My PC Specs

CPU AMD FX-6300 3.5 Ghz 6 Core CPU
GPU XFX 7870 Radeon Double D 2gb
PSU XFX Pro 750Watt
MB BioStar A960G+
8GB DD3 Ram
1TB Sata Hard Drive
Thermaltake Case
OS Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
Acer 23" Widescreen Flat Panel LED HD Monitor
Dell 21" LCD flat screen

Many thanks

and no I have never OCD this card yet, waiting to build a 2nd rig before I experiment with OCing

It's not that bad, reviews show somewhat similar temperatures - Yours are a little warmer though, however the temperatures where you live is an indicator. If you feel in need of lower temperatures, then it is possible to increase fan speed in utilities such as MSI Afterburner.

GPUs nowadays can handle temperatures in avg. of 100 celcius, you shouldn't worry that much.

Here you can see the temperatures:

50-52C sounds fine to me.

Could you see what it's hitting when playing games other than web games?

I think under load from a game you'll be hitting about 65 at the highest.

If you are concerned about the temps though you can change the fan speed in the ATI Catalyst software.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the fast reply.

I just ran Dead Space 3 on very High settings @ 1280 x 720*didnt realize it wasnt on 1920x1080 lol I hit a peak of 54-55C, just a few over the 51-52 current idle/web usage.

When I used the card on my old PC, it hit as hot as 80C, but the new case and fans helped reduce that nicely, just got worried seeing the new idle temp

82C was under my old case. When I was hitting 28 to 32 C idle, it was just 20F to 40F degrees outside, now it is 60F to 80F outside, *80F on tuesday, 68f yesterday, The house temp is at 78F degrees atm,

So I was wondering if this is due to the spring warm up, or if I need to seek other possibilities

Ok, so I spent the past 2 days playing video games, everything from Team Fortress 2, to APB Reloaded, to Tomb Raider to Arma 3. Never hit over 55 C when in game.

Yesterday was COOOLD here in Chicago, and the pc idled at 27 to 29C. Today its idling at 30 to 33 C, its also slightly warmer today, so when my pc was idling at 51C I can safely assume its weather related to my current climate yes? Cheers

Your idle temps are fine and yes ambient room temperature can have a large effect on cooling. You also mentioned adding a second monitor. Running a second monitor puts more of a load on the video card so this would also contribute to your slightly higher idle temps. My 7950 will idle anywhere from the high 30's to mid 50's.
