Upgrading my GPU

Heys guys, I'm new with this sort of stuff and not really all that 'knowledgeable' in this area. I was hoping to see what GPU I could potentially upgrade to, I currently run a nVidia 9600 GT and in order to keep up with a few games these days, I'm confident that I'd need a better graphics card. My budget is below $200. I honestly don't know what I should and should not do.

My specs are:
Windows 7 x32bit
ASUS P5QLE Motherboard
nVidia 9600 GT
4 GB of Ram
Intel Pentium Dual E2220 2.40gHz
Thermaltake M9 Chassis

I am unfamiliar with what I can and cannot change on this computer.
I was also looking at the GTX650 (DC-1GD5) to change into. Obviously, I am a gamer and, hopefully, you guys could tell me what I could change on this computer to enhance the performance.. I really don't want to change my computer, entirely.

What power supply do you have in your computer? If it's a low end one, it might end up frying your entire system if you put a too power hungry GPU in it.

You might want to consider upgrading your CPU in the near future too. It's not a great CPU for gaming.

Lol, yeah, I'm beginning to think it's far too old to have anything done to it. If at all possible, is there anything I COULD do upgrade?

I just pulled my computer out and checked the powersupply and it's a RS500-PCARD3, I don't know if it's too low end or not.
I also have a 22" LG monitor which is a 1680x1050 resolution.

I would skip the GTX650 (non ti) and get either a 7750 or 7770.

The 9600GT is a 95W card, the 7770 is a 100W card that rarely ever pulls more than 80W.

Either the 7750/70 or even a slower GTX650 will give you a boost and my hold you over until you can build a new system.

And that would definitely give it more of a boost without exploding? Hahahah, just have to make sure,

Cheers, mate.

Ya, the 7750 should be about 4 - 5 times faster than the 9600gt and it uses less power. The 7770 would be even more powerful and use roughly the same amount of power as the 9600gt. If your PSU can handle a 9600gt, it should be able to handle either of these cards with ease.

That being said, if you plan on building a new system, you could spend more on a better graphics card now and then swap it into a new build later.

Currently on newegg from cheapest/slowest to most expensive/fastest, a 7750 is about $90, 7770 is $115, GTX650Ti is $130, GTX650Ti Boost is $155 and finally a 7870 is $205.

I would only recommend up to the 650Ti on your current system. Even that would be a bit of overkill for it.
