pc specs:
GTX 460 SE
i3 3.2GHz CPU
700W PSU
4 gigs of RAM

My pc shuts down itself after playing a game for like 15 mins. Temps all fine, checked everything while running the computer at its limits using a specific programm. When it shuts down, it wont turn on for like 20 mins or so...
I opened the case and everything worked fine, i dont thing it is the temps that are causing the problem, im in disspear.

i dont know which program it was, a friend of mine did it. What i know is that it used all of the capabilities of the ram cpu and gpu. I've got an ADJ 700W PSU. No bluescreens, just dead

i've had the computer for 2 years. It happened once before 5-6 months. Again before 3 months and this week it has happened about 10 times

Sounds like failing capacitors. Unless you are really handy with a soldering iron and electronics, I suggest you get a new PSU. Antec, be-quiet, Corsair, SeaSonic, and XFX are the best. One of those in the 500W+ range would do you fine.

Unfortunately PSUs are the most overlooked part of a PC, yet one of the worst places to put a bad quality component.

but, how can u be so sure its the PSU, when nothing happens( i mean the computer doesnt shut itself down while working case opened). Will 500W be enough for a system like this? Should i get some more like 600W just for more security?

Really? Even when running the same workloads I said above (did it fail them/shut down)? Could be the PSU overheating, or something else then.

Normally, if it's one of the other components, it will display an error, rather than shutting down immediately. Also, I'd replace ultra-cheap PSUs on principle. Some of the worst ones have no safety features, and will catch fire if overstressed. Sort of scary.

EDIT: 500W is enough for almost any single-GPU system. Your 460SE and i3 are both fairly low-power parts.

so as you are saying the problem is the PSU. With 500W i hope i dont have any more unexpected shutdowns...

You can get something like this http://www.corsair.com/en/power-supply-units/cx-series-psu/cx-series-cx430m-modular-atx-power-supply-430-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu.html.

Will never fail you and should be sufficient

Would 430W be enough?

i dont know if you are able to recognize which is better but I am in two minds. I have found 3 different PSUs to buy. Tell me which is better from your point of view.
