I try to makeit short.

I want to do a clean installation of win 8 64 bit.
I have downloaded a win 8 64 bit ISO file
I have used a program and copied it to usb that made bootable.
I press win+I and I choose advanced startup and choose USB/UEFI
The computer boots but I get the error message:"selected boot device failed"

I have tried with 2 different memory sticks and I have tried in all USB port but still the same error message.
Please help.

Thanks.

Where did you download the ISO file from? How do you know the ISO file is valid? You could try mounting and installing the ISO to a virtual machine to test it.

How do you know your USB stick boots properly? Have you booted to it, without trying to install your copy of Windows 8 from it?

Does your computer even support 64-bit Windows?

You may have luck using a utility such as WinToFlash. It is made to aid in what you seem to be attempting:

The file should be from the MDSM or something like that. It should be official. Note, I already have paid for and have a win 8 64 bit on my laptop now. But now its full of crap, virus etc and I want to do a clean install.

How can I check if my USB boot properly?

Yes my laptop 64 bit windows.

Frankly, I would recreate your flash drive using WinToFlash and your downloaded ISO. Then, as Jeremy suggested, verify you are booting to your USB device when you reboot, or hop into BIOS and specifically tell the BIOS to boot from the USB device.

Proper verbiage in your BIOS will change between vendors, but for your 1st boot device, you want that to be your USB device.

Can you please explain to me how I hop into bios and specifically tell the BIOS to boot from the USB device?

I finally made it possible to boot with my USB. But now I have encountered another problem. I choose the installation Windows only
(since I want a clean install).
Then I am asked "where do you want to install windows"?
Then I get the message "we couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click load driver"

Ok, what should I do now? No drives are showing.

Not without more information. BIOS is accessed between the time a computer has been reset or first powered on. Which particular key you press or combination thereof depends on the make / model of your motherboard. What is your laptop make / model? That should help. Once in BIOS, that too will vary from one manufacturer to the next.

- Scratch this post, as you responded before I got it submitted. :)

Well, it's likely your BIOS has the SATA ports running in AHCI mode. To install in this mode, you will need to have your drivers available. Another option is to go back into your BIOS and change your SATA mode to IDE instead, and your main storage drive should become visible to the Windows installation at that point.

You mean the option "refresh you PC without affecting your personal files"?
So after this I try to boot again with my USb?
btw just to be sure? Do I need to input my product key when I do a clean win 8 install?

Or what about that I just give up the clean install of windows? What about choosing the "reset pc to factory settings" option?
At least this should work without any problems? and I an uninstall bloatware later.

I too have the same problem...to explain in short
Preinstalled win 8. I was unable to reset, refresh or restore etc.
I download MSDN windows 8..created USB bootable...and deleted all the drive (including recovery) set it to (Drive 0 Unallocated space 465 gb)
When I tried to install, it says "Windows can't be installed on this drive. (Show Detail) "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enable in the computer's BIOS menu" "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon. If other had disks are available, Installe windows to another location."

I have HP Pavilion sleekbook 15, preinstalled win8.

Any answer please?
