hi, sometimes when im using my computer and i try opening any application or file i get a error message from windows saying that 'the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000017), click OK to terminate.' I try opening other files but they wont open. the only way out of this is restarting my pc. and then the problem occurs again

renessme,

The error that you are getting seems to be associated with a lack of either physical or virtual memory.

If your computer doesn’t have the physical memory available for an application to run, Windows will use virtual memory to compensate. The best solution is to add more physical memory but you can also try increasing the size of your paging file, which is a space on your hard drive that can store data to free up physical memory to complete its work.

Another thing to keep in mind is the upcoming Windows XP End of Support date, which is April 8, 2014. If you meet the system requirements, it is strongly recommended that users make the move to a modern operating system such as Windows 7 or Windows 8 by then. A recent Springboard Blog post by Stephen Rose covers more about what end of support means and what you can do to prepare.
