I have an ASUS laptop with 320GB HD, it's acting weird lately and I'm thinking in replacing it with a 1TB internal 2.5" HD. I asked ASUS support and they told me that my laptop supports only up to 320GB HD. I've seen over the net that some people has successfully installed 1TB in XP, so my questions are:
- which settings should I check to make sure my laptop will see/accept 1TB HD? I think ASUS tech support just want to be cautious and doesn't want any liability problem with drives over 320GB.
- my current HD is Hitachi HTS543232L9A300, which is SATAIII, but according to ASUS support, my laptop will support only up to SATA II (in my understanding, my laptop supports up to SATA II but can still work with SATA III drive, the transfer rate will be SATA II). Is my assumption correct? All SATA/IDE drives are backward compatible?

I'd like to make sure that my laptop can recognize the 1TB HD before the purchase, can someone please tell me which setting should I check to make sure my laptop will accept drives over 320GB and which care should I take to install this new HD?
