USB Keyboard - Not allowing me into BIOS

Hey there,

I've got a new Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard. The Gigabyte splash screen comes up when I turn the computer on, however I cannot press any of the keys in order to get into the BIOS to select boot priority or change any options. I should add that the keyboard's lights due come on but they are not responsive (ie, I can't turn caps/scroll/num lock on or off, they're stuck in place).

It is my understanding, as the manual states, that the USB ports are enabled by default. I removed the CMOS battery and let it sit for a good couple of hours without power and return to the same option.

Once the Gigabyte screen passes, I'm lead to a black screen that does nothing.

I gave away my only ps/2 keyboard some months ago and just purchased a new USB keyboard. I'd like to get this working without having to buy another ps/2 or an adapter.

Any ideas? ='(

I'm not sure what exactly a legacy driver is, however my Logitech G15 requires its own drivers while the other USB keyboard works without them.

I went ahead and purchased a ps/2 keyboard and still no luck. I am prompted with a Gigabyte screen that says press "F9" for system information and "F12" to select a boot device. Neither of those keys, even with the ps/2, allow me access. "DEL" also does nothing.

This Gigabyte screen hangs for about 20 seconds and then switches to a pure black screen with nothing. My CD ROM drive sounds like it's doing some business, but the lights are not blinking and it settles after a few minutes. I tried a new CD ROM drive (as this is where the Windows installer is) and that did not solve the problem.

Any other suggestions? This is a bit time pertinent as this computer needs to be used ASAP!

I've removed the CMOS battery and have drained the power again. I'm going to let it sit for an hour or so and hope that I can get in. If that fails, I will try to find the hard restart pins and activate them.

Very frustrating! I can almost already say I'll never order Gigabyte again and will stick to my preferred ASUS!

EDIT - I also just found a thread with the same issue: someone suggested their problem was the use of a CRT monitor (the BIOS was actually loading but the black screen was there as it didn't show up on the CRT). This may be the issue as I'm using an old CRT monitor for this mining rig. I will go ahead and try plugging up a LCD in a bit and see if that solves the issue!

Who woulda thunk it.

The CRT was the issue. LCD works like a charm.

..now I'm just struggling getting Windows installed to an external harddrive so I can get this thing booted up. Didn't realize there were no IDE slots on this board and all of my SATA drives are configured in my current PC. Wish me luck! <3

Thanks for all of the replies.

I had this problem too. I couldn't get into the bios with either a ps/2 or usb keyboard. It turns out with mine maybe one of the memory sticks was bad. When I took out one memory stick out and left the other one in there I had no problem getting into the bios.

On a side note: Now I'm not sure why I'm only seeing 3gb of memory (2x2GB sticks) instead of the 4GB of memory?

I noticed this in the bios during boot. When I take out the one 2gb stick it registers the other stick at the full 2gb. But once I put the second stick back in it just registers it as 3gb. I tried several different sticks to test.

I have the same problem with one difference, my screen does not go black after a period of time it sits on the main screen until it is powered off, I have tried all the other solutions and still the screen stays on the Gigabyte screen asking for a prompt from the keyboard, and the keyboards power up but won't allow an input.
