Hello. This is my first time posting here.

I'm putting together parts for my first build. A gaming pc.

After choosing my video card and cpu I've hit a bit of a road block. The motherboard.

I'm pretty new to tech. But I've done a bunch of research on parts and whatnot and came a conclusion of two motherboards.

However I cannot decide which one I'd like to get. I've narrowed it down to either the extreme4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293

And the MSI GD65 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130643

Both of which say they're recommended by this site.

My video card and cpu will be a sapphire 7950 (this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202026) and an i5-3570k.

I might change the 7950 to a 7970 if I have some extra money to use once I get my parts list complete.

TL;DR Which of these two motherboards would you recommend more for a i5-3570k and 7950 build for gaming a ASrock Extreme4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293

Or a MSI GD65 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130643

Solution
I would not worry because as you said each motherboard has it's own set of issues. Really though there is a reason the ASrock extreme4 is one of the most popular motherboard for this gen.
Let me list a few differences for you:

The Asrock board has 2 PCI-Ex16 vs the MSI's 3 PCI-Ex16 - when you buy the msi board you are playing for the extra pci-e slot which is basically useless at the speed it's capped at.

The Asrock board has PCI slots, while the MSI board does not.

The Asrock board has an onboard debug LED, MSI board does not.

All in all I would definitely go for the Asrock board.

Thank you for the reply. I'm still pretty new to computer parts so I really don't know very much about them. Your post helped a lot.

No problem. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Are there any things to look for with the asrock? Like any problems common to the extreme4?

Yes there are a few common problems that will appear with this board, as I actually am using it right now. First and foremost is bent pins, although this is an issue with all lga1155 motherboards. When receiving your motherboard make sure that no pins in the socket are bent. When installing your processor also make sure that you bring it down in a vertical motion only. If you wiggle it in the socket it could cause a pin to bend which would lead to the system not working or just random restarts.

Another common issue is that the motherboard might not accept your ram on first boot unless you only have one stick in.

Overall though, thanks to the Debug led built into the motherboard, it should be easy to find the cause of an error.

Does the msi one share these problems too? If so. I'll probably get the asrock one since it's cheaper.

Like I said, pretty new to this stuff.

Is there a certain motherboard that has the least problems? Or do they all pretty much share them all?
