Corsair and GSkill?

Hi, I built a computer a while ago, and only had one stick of Ram, which was 8gb. The stick is Corsair Vengeance, with a timing of 9-9-9-24. I wished to get another stick, and found that the stores I went to all sold out. Eventually, in my desperation, I bought 2 sticks of G skill ram, each one 8 GBs with a timing of 10-10-10-30. Will I be able to use the GSkill sticks with the Corsair, or should I sell the Corsair stick?

yes you can but it isn't recommended.you may face some performance decrease. but why do you need anything more than 8GB?its already enough future proofed.

Well, I've been having performance issues in games, and it can't be my CPU or GPU, and a lot of people have said that my RAM is bottlenecking my GPU, so I thought that having dual channel memory would fix this

If I don't find any extra performance, I'll take back the g skill sticks

If the RAM isn't faulty, who ever told you that your RAM was bottlenecking your GPU should stay at least 100 feet from a computer.

As long as the RAM is running in its own channel (Since you have your ram in the first slot of the first channel, put the two sticks in the second and fourth slot if you have them), it should work fine. I wouldn't expect it to run at the rated speeds, having three high speed sticks might make the memory controller not like it. Why you have 24GB of RAM I don't know.

Mind giving us the rest of your rig specs please?

Im only using the G skill RAM, I'm either going to sell the corsair and keep using this, or return the G skill RAM and use the Vengeance stick.
I have an i7 3820, Radeon HD 7970 OC'd and Corsair CX600W PSU. Surely with these specs I should be able to play crysis 3 singleplayer at at least 50 fps, but I max out at 30 :/

So is the Gskill RAM working better now or not?

Check and make sure you don't have V-Sync enabled. 30 FPS sounds very suss, because if you can't have 60 FPS it immediately drops down to the next number that is a factor of 60, which is 30, and after that its 20, 15, 12, 10 etc etc. Crysis 3 I know for a fact has V-Sync enabled as default.

V sync is turned off, and playing at lower graphics settings only increases framerate by about 5 to ten frames per second. I've literally went everywhere for advice on this, I've posted two other forums on this side asking for help, plus numerous posts on reddit, I've asked people I know, computer store workers, and I either get a different answer or no answer at all. What's going on?
On catalyst control centre, everything is on application settings, I've monitored my GPU load using after burner, it's always good (80 to 99% except in battlefield 3) I've deleted, seeped and reinstalled drivers, countless times, and nothing.
Update: the G skill ram makes the tiniest difference, looks like I'll be returning it

Hmm. Make sure HT isn't enabled for your CPU, and make sure your card ACTUALLY CLOCKS UP. Use MSI afterburner and make sure it actually goes up to the clock. PSU might also be the case because I believe the CX600 only has 40 amps on the 12V rail (so 480W), and since you have an i7 3820 and an Oced 7970 (Which the OC should be done anyways I believe), you might be hitting the limit.

I've disabled HyperThreading (If thats what HT is) and the core and memory clocks do go up to what they should be, core at 1010 and memory at 1375.
is there a way I can test if its the PSU?

CX600 12+ 46 amps should be enough.
How did you wind up with a $$$$$$ X79 build & 7970 each high end and a lower end PS

A high end 600W yes. But a lowish end 600W not really. Wattage is not nearly as important as amperage on the 12V rail.

Also I'm certain the CX600 has different versions, three to be exact, each with different amps on the 12V rails.

I have the V2...also, to be honest, I thought Corsair was a fairly good, high end brand? I guess I was wrong

The brand is good, but not the unit it self. Take a 1990's Mercedes for example. Its cheap, its from a good brand, but compared to other cars, its not that great.

Corsair is a top brand with a wide selection of power supplies the CX are entry level units.

Well, what do you guys think of a Corsair GS800W PSU? or should I aim to ditch Corsair PSU's in general?

I have the V2 version of the GS800 (Make sure you look for the 2013 V2 version), and its pretty quiet. Went back to the store for RMA though, should get it this week (DMM was reading 10.93 V on the 12V rail, causing lots of crashes). I got a faulty unit, but that happens, so if you get one you'll most likely be fine.
