You're getting the sites downloader program instead of the actual drivers. I hate when they do that, too. If you can find the exact model of their motherboard go to the manufacturers site and download the drivers from there. Give us the model number and we'll help you find them.

You have all been really helpful and i thank you !

Howev er as i modify each search i get this ..... We are sorry, there is no Intel.com page matching your request. The page may have been renamed, moved or is no longer available. Please verify the address you typed is spelled correctly. If you are certain that this URL is valid, please send us feedback about the broken link.

So it seems that i have a problem trying to find what i am looking for .. I am uncertain now to exactly what this Damn PC is wanting from me ..... Obviously either Net adapter .... Ethernet or some form of device driver .... it shows 4 yellow ? in management and keeps throwing 1394 up as a net adapter and i am confused exactly what it wants

That is the wrong network adapter! That is the FireWire adapter. In theory that can be used as a network adapter, but what you want is the ethernet adapter.

This was supposed to have been a new install and straight onto the net ... i work with windows 7 and not XP and i am just trying to solve getting my parents on the net for their first time
Also i know for a FACT THAT THIS pc IS NOT THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS (oops caps) There are hundreds of these in various forums with people saying they had the same problem trying to get drivers ... Problem seems to be that it is an old PC and all available drivers require it to be on Net to get them working .. You guys have been most helpful and i apologise if you think my knowledge is no good but as i said i am just trying to fix a PC that i have no knowledge of ... THANK YOU

Usually when I have problems with drivers I use my modern PC, download the drivers there, and put them on a USB drive for use on the old computer. Since you didn't have your network drivers working properly you never could have downloaded them to the old computer.

Just a quick idea, download a linux distro and make a bootable usb from that. See it it will connect with linux. If not it is probably a bad network adapter on the motherboard. If that's the case you can go get a cheap ethernet card and install it. Usually works great.
