Windows 7 Cannot Find Ethernet

I've been having this problem ever since we replaced an old AT&T router.
What is happening is that the Airport Extreme, which is extending the network, isn't giving off a signal to the PC.
I have used an Ethernet on my mac, and works fine.
For some reason my Windows 7 does not pick up the Ethernet when plugged in, all it does is try to Identify it and later gives up and says "No Network Access"
So far i have switched Ethernet cables, Ethernet ports on the back of the router, and did a Clean Start up. The PC only has one Ethernet Port. I have also updated the Driver for the motherboard, but no luck.
I have seen some articles stating to update the NIS driver, but i cant seem to find it or it is named differently.
Thank you to all that respond,

PS:
Wireless DOES work

  1. I believe they meant NIC driver (network card). You could try that, but also go to your network and sharing settings and in the top left corner you will see "change adapter settings". click there then you could just right click on the Local area network and let windows diagnose but I believe if you aren't running anything special from your computer you should right click on it and go to properties, then internet protocol version 4 properties and just make sure that everything is set to automatic.

    Thanks for your response,
even though it was a start, my computer still shows the Ethernet as an Unidentified Network. Theres got to be some reason why it stopped working THE DAY we replaced the router? could it be in the Airport Extreme itself?
  3. It could be in the airport. I don't have much experience with those but if it still had setting from the old router it may cause it not to work currently. For instance I noticed you're using an AT&t router. Depending on the router you have AT&T uses different default gateways. Their 2wire routers commonly use 192.168.1.254 as the default gateway whereas their Westell might use 192.168.0.1 as default. I'd suggest hardwiring to your first router with ur pc and if your local area setting are set to automatic from my first response then it should connect. When it connects go to start -> run -> cmd.exe and type in ipconfig \all. Then look for your default gateway. With that number in mind do the same first steps to your airport. If u get ur airport's default gateway you should be able to type it in the address bar of safari on your Mac and get to the airport's settings. Once their see if you can make sure that the airport is using the default gateway of the first router as its default gateway since it is using it for Internet.

Let me know if that helps
  4. Or while connected to the airport go to start -> run -> cmd.exe and type in ipconfig \release and then ipconfig \renew. Make sure u type the spaces between those words.

When i did this, i got the following error:

An error occured while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1:
The system cannot find the file specified. This operation failed as no
adapter is in the state permissible for this operation

I tried this with and without Wireless on and neither times worked.

Also, i look at the Local Area Connection and both IPv6 and IPv4 are not picking up.

PS: my older router was taken when it was replaced, and for some odd reason, when i type in ipconfig, the Default Gateway is left blank
    Everything else is filled out

    I have a 2Wire Router
  6. Reset ur airport. Hold the reset button for like 30 seconds(not sure how long for those) it needs to recapture the default gateway. Let me know if thy does anything.

    didn't do anything
i even found the airports IP info, entered on the Ethernet adapter, and still didn't work
    even after restart
both IPv6 and IPv4 are not picking anything up.
I do see lights on the back of the airport and PC, but the diagnose doesn't pick anything up.
  8. when u found the airport's ip settings did you put in the ip of your computer or the ip of the first router. it needs to use the first router's default ip as its gateway.

i put it in the IPv4 for the Ethernet. is there a tutorial you could give me to do this?
  10. Like I said before I don't know a lot about the airports but I seem to be the only person who will help you so onward! I found a couple videos on youtube and it seems that most macs come with an app (or you will have the airport cd) to help set up your airport automatically. Heres a link to one.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oArBoRZhuoQ

seems pretty straight forward. also make sure your first router is plugged into port one of your airport.
  11. also make sure that the ip settings are still set to automatic for you computer.

control panel -> network and sharing center -> change adapter settings -> local area connection -> (right click) then properties -> internet protocol version 4 -> properties -. check both ticks for automatic settings.

Yeah thats what i have been using. I didn't set it up, but someone guided me through it and made it in Bridge mode. i believe we did the same thing with the old router.

Also, the Airport is set up wirelessly, as my father would not let me run an Ethernet from the upstairs room to my room
I cannot run an Ethernet to the Extreme
  13. in the wireless settings in the airport utility is your closed network thing on? it may be under wireless then wireless options.
  14. also you can do this. go back to network and sharing center and up next to the change adapter settings theres "manage wireless networks". go in there. find the name of your airport if it in there and click it once then click up top to remove it. this will make ur pc forget it in case it has the wrong password for it or something.

ps- your wireless has to be on to see that manage wireless networks option

The airport is set to bridge mode because i don't have a cable coming from outside to my room. Therefore it doesn't give off a network, or at least it isn't if its supposed to.

But i do see Both the new and old 2Wires.

That's some info about bridged mode. I was asking about if its in "closed network" mode. Just to try anything at this point can u take it out of bridged mode?
