Okay so to start I am pretty new to all this. I was a Mac user (please don't hate me) for several years, but I have now switched to Windows and recently had help from a friend making a custom built pc with Windows 7 ultimate. The build initially had a Seagate 1TB hard drive, but after a week it started to fail on me. It would lag and programs would open at a snail's pace. I returned that hard drive and went with Western Digital. It's been working so much better now, but occasionally the computer will freeze (no lag whatsoever, just freezing), but not often enough that I felt too worried. Just to feel safe though I ran a SMART test using Disk Checkup, but it came up with the error "the last self-test routine completed with a failure of the read element". It comes up in both the quick and extended test, but the quick test only makes it 90% and the extended does not make it past 10%. Also below the test it says "Warning: It has been observed that some drives that claim to support the Disk Self Test standard don't in fact fully support the specification. Some drives report the progress/status incorrectly. Your mileage may vary". So I'm not sure if there truly is anything wrong with my hard drive.

As I said before I am pretty new to this so any help or advice anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Also for more info on my drive I exported the disk info from disk checkup and copy pasted it below.

I downloaded the Western Digital diagnostic program DLGDIAG and ran a quick test. This is what it came back with.

Quick Test on drive1 did not complete!
Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 109
(Unknown Test)
SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!
