Bioshock Infinite is an amazing game first of all, but I am having an issue with the stuttering. I was running the game on ultra and noticed that I was experiencing what I thought was a frame rate issue. However, I was still getting stutter on lower settings. I was puzzled, so I downloaded Fraps to check my FPS. I ran a mission and unlocked the frame rate/turned v sync off in game. I was averaging a surprising 100-125 FPS, but was still experiencing choppiness. I turned v sync on in game and it seemed to smooth out, but my fps was capped to 60 and during moments of intense action it would drop closer to 30 and run terrible. Why, when I unlock my frame rate, does my fps run at a "respectable" 60+ but the image feels choppy and un smooth? Is it screen tearing? I am confused.

That´s exactly what screen tearing is, the game is having FPS higuer than the refresh rate of your monitor which is 60 hz as I can tell so you must activate V sync to prevent that but you could try and activate the triple buffering option in the catalyst panel and then tell me how it was.

Screen tearing and stuttering are different animals. Btw, have you tried using the latest Beta drivers?

Afaik screen tearing did not affect gameplay smoothness much though to some those tearing screen can be annoying to look at. Depending on games v sync can reduce the stuttering effwct but not eliminate the problem entirely. For example with crysis 3 the game will stutter a lot on my machine. With v-sync enabled the stutteting issue almost gone though i still fell slight stutter from time to time. So far the worse stuttring issue i ever encounter was deus ex human revolution. Not even v-sync can help the game.

Btw i heard the stuttering problem in bioshock infinite was game related amd not on driver side. There was a guy asking in nvidia driver release comment (not driver feedback forum) when the stutter issue in bioshock will get fix and nvidia respond that the problem was with the game as the stutter did not only happen on nvidia cards only but also to other graphic cards as well.
