Hello,

I just bought a EVGA GTX 680 2gb and installed latest drivers. I tried out a few games on 1920x1080 res with max settings. Skyrim had 50-60 fps average, dota 2 110 average, Dishonored 120 avg, FC3 Blood Dragon 90FPS average and everything was working great.

However my 680 GTX randomly stopped performing well after a CPU overheat shutdown, and is showing 90-100% GPU during startup even with no programs running. It is receiving horrible FPS in games. 20 FPS skyrim, 30 FPS Dishonored, 30 FPS Dota 2, 15 FPS FC3 Blood Dragon, 20 FPS Far Cry 3. I tried reinstalling latest drivers a couple times and still no effect. Does anyone know what is wrong? Do I need to return this card for a replacement?

My system:

i7 920
GTX 680 2GB
9GB DDR3 1300 MHz
Asus Rampage Extreme
2x 1TB 7200 RPM WD

I doubt very seriously that your 680 was damaged from your CPU overheating. What it sounds like to me is that you severely damaged your CPU. I could be wrong, but that is what it sounds like to me. Its always a good idea to get an aftermarket CPU cooler if you're going to be doing stuff on your PC other then just surfing the web and listening to music. They are decently cheep for a good one. Spending $30 on one is better then spending $100+ on a new CPU. :)

Would a damaged CPU make the GPU run at full load?
It does sound like there is something wrong with the CPU, as even with the stock cooler it's pretty damn hard to overheat your CPU on stock clocks.
I'd wager and say that there is something wrong with your GPU, too though. Exchange it while you can.

It appears I fixed the issue by downloading EVGA PrecisionX and "Enabling K-Boost". My GPU usage is now at a stable 0-5% when in windows and doesn't go above 80%.
