Arctic Accelero Xtreme - Overkill or good choice?

I want to upgrade the stock cooler on my Radeon 7850, and I am currently looking at the Arctic Accelero Xtreme:

Is this overkill? Can I get away with a dual fan solution instead? Of note, I am currently overclocking my card to 1150mhz on the core, 1250mhz on the memory, at stock voltage. Temps are running about 73C max on Furmark benchmark.

it certainly isnt overkill but wont allow you to overclock your card much at all. it is however very very quiet.
i have the 5870 version on my gpu and have been using it for over 2 years (my fan failed within 5 months and powercolour refused to honor there warranty.

my gpu temps are around 46'c at 100'load with furmark running a 15 min burn in test. it climes from the 29'c fairly quickly to 40-41'c then tapers off dramatically. so thats pretty decent. the problem is the vrm's dont get the same kind of performance cooling. my gpu may be at 46'c but the vrm's are often x2 that or more. least time i checked it was nearer 97'c which although hot is within spec.
there are ofther 3rd party coolers that get close to the gpu temps but they all seem to forget about the vrm's and dont give them the tlc they need so we cant overclock properly. but for general day to day amongst all the 3rd party gpu coolers, the arctic coolers are hard to beat

I am OC'ing now with the stock cooler. Are you saying I won't get anything better than the overclock I am already doing, or that this cooler won't handle OC'ing at all? Sorry, I am a little confused.

its likely it wont give you better results than you already have. it will be a good deal quieter but its unlikely to offer more over clocking potential... the gpu manufacturers have caught up to the 3rd parties and will often give just as good or better cooling. this wasnt the same 5 years ago when it really was worth the effort of upgrading from a stock impeller unit. but today with the direct cu2, twinfrozer and the likes you would be hard pushed to find a better 3rd party cooler if you card came with something other than the reference impeller.

Well that's depressing, haha! I was hoping to get some lower temps and push the gpu to 1200mhz.

Thanks for the help!
