Hi,

My HP Pavilion dm4-2070us laptop battery died and I'm looking for a replacement. Although, my knowledge of computers is very limited and I may buy the wrong thing. I did look at this chart and I believe I have to find a HP 6-cell Primary Battery (MU06) or HP 9-cell Primary Battery (MU09)?

May I ask for your suggestions? Thank you in advance for your response.

I can offer some Dos and Don'ts.

Don't buy the inexpensive " New Genuine HP (Dell, Lenovo, etc.) Battery" from the eBay Power Sellers. There is no way that anyone can get large quantities of new, genuine batteries at a dirt cheap price. They are either completely fake, or genuine recycled battery case with cheap cells. Consider this: a genuine HP 6-cell battery pack (MU-06) contains 6 Samsung pink 2600 MAH 18650 lithium cells. Each of them costs about $7. Plus the cost of protection circuitry, case, and assembly. The cost to HP should be near $50. I don't know if any retailer can sell them to you in the $30's in large quantities.

However, occasionally you can find casual sellers selling off extra genuine batteries at low prices. You may find bargains there. But make sure that the date on batteries is no longer than 18 months old. If they come in the original HP packaging, then they are most likely good stuff.

If you don't mind aftermarket compatibles, Amazon is a much more dependable place than eBay. Amazon still has a product feedback system with integrity but eBay has built so much protection for Power Sellers, that its rating system is no longer trustworthy. Look for products with large number of good reviews. They are good bets. But keep in mind that a name brand (Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sanyo) 18650 battery costs about $7 a piece (a 6-cell battery pack contains 6 cells). If the battery pack costs less than the cost of name brand cells, they won't contain name brand cells.
