Weird wireless mouse issue

Hey guys,

I am experiencing a very odd problem with my wireless Logitech M510 mouse. Basically, whenever I try using the mouse on a mouse pad, it lags horribly and sometimes just isn't responsive to movement at all; however, when I try it on the carpet of the floor, or on the thigh of my jeans, it works perfectly smoothly.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Logitech, put in brand new batteries, tinkered with the mouse sensitivity settings, tried several brand new (clean) mouse pads, and cleaned the lens...nothing seems to be fixing the problem. I have also tried switching the USB receiver to every different USB port in the tower. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem? It's very strange, and needless to say, rather annoying. If this continues unresolved, my only real solution as I see it is to cut up a patch of denim and use that as a mouse pad (because, as stated earlier, it works perfectly when I place the mouse on my thigh and use it there). I guess my other option would be to get a different mouse, but this mouse is brand new. I tried replacing it at the store with my receipt, in case it was simply a defect, but the replacement is having the same issues.

Thoughts?
