I'm looking to upgrade my old 3850 with a Nvidia 660 (ti). My specs are:
6gb Ram,
Intel core duo e8400 3GHZ,
P5Q3 Mobo,
And a 1050p monitor.
I'm asking how bad will the bottleneck be, and is it worth upgrading. And I'm hopefully upgrading to a quad core soon. As well as I would love to learn how to oc my CPU.
Thanks,
Gerren.

Solution
It's actually not a bad CPU. The only bottleneck would be that it's a dual core so games capable of running in quad cores like Battlefield 3 will suffer.

I always try to spend about the same amount of money on both my cpu and gpu, this helps with making sure there is no bottleneck.I would say that you should upgrade the cpu but that will be difficult with that socket mobo.I would get a AMD FX-4300 Vishera 3.8GHz and a ASRock 880GM-LE FX AM3+ AMD 880G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. These would be another $175 though.Sorry about the length, hope this helps.

No... I don't like AMD. I much rather go with Intel. I was thinking of the i5 3570k with a Asus mobo. And the games I'll be playing are Battlefield 3, Far cry 3, Skyrim, Oblivion, Borderlands 2, Crysis 1-3, Just cause 2, the new upcoming Battlefield 4, etc...

Is the graphics card worth the upgrade with my current cpu, and maybe hold out until I have enough to buy the rest of my upgrades?

Indeed I am willing to switch to an i5, that would be my preferable processor. However, I don't have enough money to buy the card and the processor at the same time. Is it worth it to just save up my money to get all three items (processor, graphics card and motherboard) or just buy them one at a time? I am currently playing on a 1050p 22 inch monitor. I have oc my cpu to 3.60ghz, and I'm wanting to play Battlefield 3 on ultra. I am wondering if I can achieve that with 30+ fps on that game.
Thanks,
Gerren.

I'm aware. I also gave you a link to a 1155 socket motherboard that is capable to my knowledge of using the i5 3570k. If I were to overclock the heck out of my e8400, how much increase of my performance would I get?

That motherboard is good. As for the OC, you can probably get to 4GHz pretty stable. In terms of performance, you won't see a large increase. Most of the games you listed will still be at a playable framerate. BF3, Crysis, and probably the BF4 will still give you issues on the E8400. I've never played Far Cry (guilty) so I'm not even sure how graphical intensive it is. Oblivion will be okay. Just Cause 2 will be playable and okay.

Again, all that is based on the E8400, not your new i5.

First of all, you don't sound like you know much about overclocking, so I'd suggest you don't overclock. A wrong move on your part by setting a bad voltage will fry your chip, your motherboard, and possibly other parts. If you want to learn, I suggest you read up on it and be very careful.

It may be a bit lower in fps on those games with the E8400. But the E8400 isn't going to bottleneck your GTX 660 Ti too much.

Correct, I'm rather new to it. I have done slight overlclocks, I never have increased the voltage. I got it up to 3.60Ghz, but it was too hot so I ordered some cooling. I am willing to learn more about it, and make better clock speeds.
