So I have this wireless Xbox 360 controller with the little receiver and everything, but when I plug the receiver into my computer nothing happens. Literally, it's as if I had moused to the left, nothing at all happens. The light for the receiver doesn't come on, no sound plays to show that it was connected, and no notifications show up saying that the software is being installed. I tried going to the device manager to find the 'Unidentified' device and there isn't even an option for that. So what I have here is a receiver that is shooting blanks. Any suggestions? I'm trying to play Black, and I just got everything successfully installed. Everything but this damned controller... -.- PLEASE HELP!

I have the same exact problem in win 8.1 exept the light on the receiver is lit. It also reacts to my controller going from blinking to continous light when I'm trying to connect them (acting "normal"). They don't connect tho (of course) because the receiver does not pop up in device manager or in "Printers and hardware". The weird thing is that it worked a couple of months ago. And suddenly it does not any more.It works on my laptop tho... <---- So, its not the receiver.

I have tried every step in this thread too but without luck.
