So in TF2 i'm using a turtle beach x12 to talk to people. I went to test my microphone, and when i'm not even speaking it emits this VERY LOUD background noise. Its like a giant horse galloping in the background. This happens even when i'm quiet and even when the mic is nowhere near my mouth. I turn down the mic transmit volume and the same problem occurs.

It picks up my voice but it is extremely bad sound quality because of this. It appears that there is zero noise cancellation.

What could possibly be wrong? The mic works fine on xbox. On PC I plugged the 2.5mm green connector and 2.5mm pink connector to my PC. Audio that goes through the headphones themselves is fine but my mic is just messed up for some reason.

When i try to tweak settings in steam menu (not tf2 voice menu) I cannot hear myself. I went to Windows 7 settings and it recognizes my headset as speakers instead of headphones but it recognizes my mic fine.

Again, WTF is going on?

Edit: in addition to the mysterious galloping like noise that happens, it appears that everything the mic hears it echoes EXTREMELY LOUD.

If any of you guys have TF2 I'll be happy to join a game with you and show you whats wrong with my mic. Its just horrific and appears as if noise cancellation on my mic just got slaughtered. Even if someone was talking across the room the mic picks it up as if the person was right next to the mic.

You should check your PC's 'Recording Device' settings, and make sure there are no effects or amplification (Microphone Boost) being applied.
