Does steam have some sort of party chat/cross game chat for PC gamers? I know xbox 360 does so why would STEAM not have something like this? I know for a fact PC is more than capable of this.

If not, then is skype or some other program good for this? I need to be able to hear game audio while talking to friends and I don't know how to configure that on my turtle beach x12 headset. Normally on xbox you would use the chat volume controller to control people's voices while the game volume controlled the game volume. On pc however, that doesn't work and the chat volume control does nothing.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I use skype, but the downside of that is talking in game might cause a little confusion to your friends, especially if you guys end up on opposing teams. i guess that's the downside of party chat too? skype works excellently though

Sure it does. Go to steam > friends > click the little arrow besides the friend's avatar > send a message.
You can also invite multiple friends into the same chat. When you're in the chat window, just click the arrow and > invite to chat.

I meant voice chat. I apologize if I wasn't clear on that in the original post.

But for skype, raidcall, teamspeak and such, how can you adjust volumes for both the CHAT program you're using (skype, raidcall, teamspeak, etc.) separate from game volume? What if you want the chat volume to be higher than game volume or vise versa?

I've never really found a way to do this with a headset.

If you have a macro enable keyboard then its simple, otherwise, not so much.

Steam supports both text and voice multi conversations, simply invite they way others have in this thread, voice comms is activated with the same drop down arrow botton i believe.

You can setup the send and receive mic volumes in steam settings 'voice' tab, you can also enable push to talk or mic always on.

This I did not know!!! I thought it only supported text chat with groups!!!

I will try this out and see if it works. How many people does it support at once?
