sound only coming from left speakers on sound card

I have a HT Omega Claro II sound card, and for some reason(only whenever I plug my receiver into this card), the sound only goes through the left speakers, I'm on windows 8, but the error happened in windows 7 as well, and the drivers are up to date, I have it plugged into the third port which is the one for the "front" speakers. I can plug it into the Motherboard's jack and the audio works just fine, but I would prefer to use the sound card for this.

anyone have an idea as to what's going on?

Chances are the audio jack has been damaged or worn over time.

I had the same thing happen to my old SB 16, but it was over YEARS of use.

You can buy a replacement jack to solder on the card or try a new cable sometimes the new cable may have a slightly larger plug(not worn?) and work fine.

You do not have an option to re-task lets say the rear jack to be a front do you? Would work for stereo sound.

An extreme solution may be to try to slightly flatten the 3.5mm end of the cable to make it wider and have a better change to get contact(the plug would need to be twisted until it makes proper contact). I say it is extreme because it may cause more problems if not done right and worse case, the tip connector can actually slip out of the plug and get jammed in the sound card.

It would have to be a software option. I know many onboard cards allow it. I do not have that card, so am not 100% sure if it does support that feature(I know creative cards only have an option for mic/line in, so that would not help either way).

I don't see the option, but I found an extra optical cable, and that seemed to resolve the problem, I can't use my equalizer, but the removal of all the white noise was worth it 10x over, thanks for the help though!

Optical is GREAT because it makes ground loops impossible(no actual contact since contact is isolated by way of light)
