Hi,
I have been out of the hardware loop for a long time and need some advice on which way to go for a new system.
Current system is quite old.

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU + intel DG965Wh 3GB ram, GTX 550TI DDR5 1GB.

Should I be looking at LGA 2011 or 1155?
I7 or I5? or wait for the Haswell? (dont know much about any of these)

I am on a budget around $1000 -1200.

Though it has been a long time since I bought a PC so i would like to get one that will be relevant (for me) for a few years.

Approximate Purchase Date: next two months

Budget Range: $1200

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Video editing - web development -Gaming

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: pretty much everything - perhaps not Graphics card if my GTX550 TI wont drag down a new system
I do have 4 x 2gb pc3 -10600e ram (not sure if its superseded by a lot)

Do you need to buy OS: yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: local wholesaler http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=4
unless they are overpriced

Location: Australia QLD Goldcoast

Parts Preferences: INTEL CPU Nvidia Graphics

Overclocking: Maybe not sure why or how

SLI or Crossfire: not in the short term

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Additional Comments: Quiet, Bling not important (too old for that :) )
Games - currently planet side 2
Sony vegas
Gimp
Sharepoint

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: games FPS is really bad, video editing and conversion takes along time

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links.
N/A

Thanks.

Figure out which is more important, gaming or video editing. Because on that budget, I think your only going to be able to get one or the other.
My suggestion, build an editing rig now, and later on slap a decent GPU in. Its easier to give an editing rig gaming capabilities (slap in a GPU, thats it), than to make a gaming rig good at editing (more RAM, better CPU, storage systems if need be).

Thanks for the reply, filled out the form ( in original post).
An Editing System would utilise the hyperthreading? so i would be looking more towards the i7 2011 system?
