That is not a driver problem, but a hardware issue. Your optical drive actually has 2 lasers (different wavelengths). One for CD and one for DVD (I am keeping this very simple) reading/writing.
It appears that your DVD laser is defective or dirty. Try running a CD/DVD cleaner disk through your drive (you can get at any electronics store, like Radio Shack, or in the electronics department of Walmart or Target). You can also dislodge dust/hair/etc with a can of compressed air.
If this fails to resolve the problem, you likely need to replace the optical drive. They are easy to replace and inexpensive. For example:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151261
