Very few optical drives require specific drivers in order to work. The generic drivers included with Windows work with 99+% of what is on the market. What specific problem are you having?

I have an Acer Aspire 5680 laptop with the above drive in it. It will not read or write DVD's but will read/write CD's

That is not a driver problem, but a hardware issue. Your optical drive actually has 2 lasers (different wavelengths). One for CD and one for DVD (I am keeping this very simple) reading/writing.

It appears that your DVD laser is defective or dirty. Try running a CD/DVD cleaner disk through your drive (you can get at any electronics store, like Radio Shack, or in the electronics department of Walmart or Target). You can also dislodge dust/hair/etc with a can of compressed air.

If this fails to resolve the problem, you likely need to replace the optical drive. They are easy to replace and inexpensive. For example:

Thanks for the info.

1) Did drive diagnostic in Nero, no help

2) Bought Drive cleaner. Did no work.

3) Bought External USB DVD/RW - Problem solved.

Thanks for your help. It was worthwhile cleaning it before buying an external DVD/RW,

Thanks again
