I recently replaced my motherboard and power supply because my last psu died and took the mb with it. Now when I press the power button my pc begins to start-up but then powers down and then resumes starting and powers up just fine and everything works. Is my pc case power button failing? Also, can I unplug the power button from the motherboard and attach the reset button to the power button prongs on the mb and use that as the start button or do I have to have a reset button attached to the mb? Thanks for any input :)

yes you can switch the switches and not have an issue i've done it my self when I had my old desk so the power button was closer to me than the reset. you can also try unplugging just the power switch and using a screw driver and touching the terminals together to see if it is the switch. it only takes a touch of the terminals to find out, no need to keep the screwdriver on the terminals.

edit: think about a how a car battery is for terminals. the switch for a PC is a metal bar that touches those two end together that's all. It just shorts the two terminals together to turn on and the same to turn off.
