I am thinking of making my own computer using 8gb of ram and a intel pentium g2020. Would this cpu be good enough or should i spash out on a separate graphics card and/or a different cpu(it would be used for light gaming).

Solution

You said light gaming.
Graphics card such as the HD 6670 or HD 7750 is enough for casual games and light gaming.
Most games run well on dual core CPU.
But next generation console will use more CPU cores and more threads.
That is why most people recommend Core i5 and Core i7 as they are quad core processors and are much...

Yes, the Pentium G2020 is a good budget CPU for the price.
The pentium G2020 should perform faster than the Core 2 Duo E8400 at stock speeds.
Pair it with a dedicated graphics card like the GTX 650 Ti or HD 7770 and should be good enough for gaming.

An old i5 750 is a very bad option since there isn't an upgrade path as you are stuck with lga 1156.

If you're on budget and want to upgrade later to i5 or i7, the Pentium should do well for now.

Mr Woods, although the I5 and I7 are better, they are not any newer, as the g2020 is an ivybridge processor. What they are, is significantly more expensive, and where is mention of I3, I3 has a lot of bang for the buck! For someone on a budget a pairing of G2020 and a good video card will work fine for gaming, especially with the 8 gigs of ram stated above.
