Hard drive won't initialize.

I have tried -
rebooting
all USB ports
3 different computers, same thing happens with all of them.

It started one day after I rebooted my PC.

Here is what happens..

Any help? I would really not like to have to reformat the harddrive.. Also, lights are flashing like they should on the external harddrive.

I am assuming this is a USB Hard Drive - can you remove the hard drive from the enclosure and try connecting via a SATA port? When an external drive goes bad - it is either the HDD (won't work when connected directly) or the USB interface (will work when connected directly). If the HDD is bad - time to buy a new one.

Your internal hard drives are connected via the SATA port. You should have a cable on your current hard drive. To test - you can unplug your hard drive, and plug this drive in. If it is detected in BIOS, the drive is good.

You can go to any computer store and pickup a USB enclosure for your external hard drive for around $20.
