Hi, first time builder here and I want to know a relatively cheap RAM (2 x 4GB) that is compatible with the msi Z77MA-G45 motherboard. I intend to have a i5 3570k and a gigabyte gtx 560 OC if that's relevant. I do know corsair vengeance is compatible but I want to cut costs where I can and I was wondering whether RAM products of unknown companies would fail more or something?

Most RAM comes with a lifetime warranty regardless of the manufacturer. Once RAM is installed and verified to be running properly it also doesn't fail often in my experience. So in that sense getting a pair of bad sticks from a less than stellar brand isn't going to kill you and you could get whatever happens to be the cheapest at the time. Right now that happens to be the Wintec One 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model 3OH16009U9H-8GK set on Newegg for $48.45.

That said, I typically prefer going with a more reputable brand because I don't like having to perform tests to verify RAM quality before verifying my system is good to go. With that in mind I typically stick with Kingston, Patriot, and Corsair memory and have heard good things about G.Skill, Mushkin, and GeIL as well.

Your best buy from one of those companies is going to be either the GeIL EVO Veloce Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model GEV38GB1600C9DC on Newegg for $52.99 or CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R on Newegg for $62.99.

I have not checked for any of these on the MSI Verified RAM Compatability list posted on MSI's website, but it is rare for memory to not work due to motherboard incompatibilities, even if it isn't on that list.

Thanks for the reply. I wish newegg would deliver to the UK as they seem to always be the cheapest for almost every item. I decided to buy the 8gb (2x4) Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz for £39. I'm assuming that it is compatible with my motherboard as it is a 240-pin module.
