Current system:
e7500 2.93 ghz duo
2gb ram
ati radeon 600x
motherboard is as rock g31m-s

Yes its pretty much a waste of space but is there any hope to upgrade it?
Ideally want to be able to play arma2, dayz maybe arma3. Would that even be possible or should I save up and get something new? I wont be able to afford much.

Thanks and feel free to laugh at how bad my system is lol.

Solution
Upgrading the RAM would be worthwhile although you cannot go that much higher with a 32 bit OS and a GPU taking address space. Probably up to 3 GB usable.

"EZCOOL" makes me nervous because it is unheard of which isn't a good sign with PSUs.

I am sticking by the recommendation of the Radeon 7750 or 7770. The 7770 may bottleneck alittle with that CPU but not bad.

Also overclocking the CPU would be worthwhile.

In any case that X600 GPU is pretty much the same strength as your onboard chipset.
Overall, It would be better off to start with a new build. That said if you cannot come up with a decent chunk of money right now, the system you have can still be upgraded.
Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit OS?
That GPU is really old. What is your PSU?
I would probably put in something like a Radeon 7750 or 7770 depending on your budget and PSU. It will certainly help.

It's 32 bit. Did think of getting more ram and a 64 bit OS. Yeah the GPU was just something I had laying around. The PSU is EZCOOL ATX-500 JSP 500 Watts.
Thanks.

In a recent article here on tom's there was a comparison between Core2 Duos and Core 2 Quads vs Ivy Bridge Pentium and Celeron and I3. The article showed that the performance is rather similar. Those CPUs are still quite adequate for most games. If you don't have enough budged for a new build and you do mostly gaming then you can keep improve the build. I can recommend you 3 options:
1 - If your PSU is still good enough (good brand and power of 450W and up) pick up a Radeon HD 7750 (very good recommendation from the previous post) Also put in some more ram, 4GB is must nowadays.
2 - If not then upgrade the PSU and get a better video card. Get a Radeon HD7750 or higher. I don't recommend anything from nVidia that is lower than GTX 650 ( meaning all GT GPUs ). Ram upgrade is still highly recommended. (Hint you can use your PSU and GPU when you migrate on a newer platform)

Please note that certainly GPUs above the GTX 650 or HD 7800 series will be bottle necked by your CPU. So, because of this comes the 3rd solution:
3 - Wait for Haswell and upgrade (coming in few months) or if you are really in the need of a new machine then jump on Ivy Bridge.

Thank you. I think this will work best for me at the moment. The 7770, RAM and a PSU.

Also thanks to Shneiky.
