Odd USB Problem

Hello, and thanks for reading this. So lately I have been having a problem with my USB peripherals staying connected to my PC. It started shortly after I did 3 things; Upgraded BIOS, Installed a new process, and Upgraded too windows 8. It started off as just my USB NIC getting disconnected from the front panel, to now all USB ports getting disconnected from the back which effects my mouse + keyboard and NIC.

Earlier today I reformatted windows 8 hoping to cure this problem to no avail. after I had set up windows 8 and was installing drivers I walked away from my PC where then my monitor shut off from inactivity, however when I came back none of my peripherals where working, so I couldn't wake the system up. From then on multiple resets and switching of USB ports nothing allowed me to use my mouse or keyboard, however to throw a curve ball they where PERFECTLY accessible in the BIOS.

SO at this point I was thinking it was 100% Windows 8, and that maybe my upgrade was corrupted or whatever. So I put in my windows 7 disk to convert back and low and behold in the setup neither mouse nor keyboard would work, until I switched the USB port my mouse was in which caused BOTH to work.... So I figured to try to boot back to my HDD which windows 8 was still on, and now it is all working, however for how long I do not know.

TL;DR, USB devices loose connection after a while a lot, or sometimes don't work at all on boot. All work perfectly fine in the BIOS, but not in the OS nor from the disk drive. Recent changes to my PC where; upgraded BIOS version, new processor, and upgraded too windows 8.

Thanks for any help provided, and I'm not exactly sure where to post this :p

I have an Asus M5a99x EVO Mobo, they have all sorts of support downloads for it but nothing specifically for USBs other than USB 3.0 Boost... Is it maybe in the chipset update?

yes... I would pull all the Win8 drivers...

this is the Rev 2.0 version...

I see a BIOS update that talks about USB stability. The newer one SHOULD include the fixes in the older ones, so do you have BIOS ver 1503?

Also there are ASUS utilities there, they might help with isolating the issue... You can also email ASUS support, not sure what kind of response you will get, never used their support.

You think I could use the 2.0 software with my board? Mine is the original version and according to the page for the non-2.0 version - I have updated everything. The only thing I hadn't updated was the chipset, which I did last night and now my pc's stability seems better it's been 12hrs + with nothing disconnecting which isn't exactly uncommon but is more stabile then recently.

I also just download slimdrivers - to find any remaining un updated drivers that I need fixing and it found an I/O proccessor update! I think that MAY be it, but if the R2 Bios and other software can be used with my MOBO it wouldn't hurt to use it, as they are newer - think I should try it?
