The laptop is a Gateway NV55S07u when we try to run windows normally we get
Status: 0xc00000e9
an unexpected I/O error has occurred

when we run the recovery disc we get to the gateway recovery management and it says wait a moment which seems very long and nothing happens.

You also hear clicking coming from the hard drive or the cdrom.

we also get this windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change......... we havent done any changes tot he laptop so it cant be that maybe the hard-drive just died.

Thanks for help in advance

Yup, you have a dead hard drive. You need a replacement. Is your rig still in warranty? If not, you can get whatever 2.5" hard drive you want (Seagate, Western Digital, 500gb, 250gb, whatever) and swap it in, then use your recovery disc to reload Windows.

I could have been dropped (cause #1), it could have vibrated causing the pickup to hit the platter, the controller board could have gotten too hot, lots of possibilities. It is a mechanical piece of hardware (with lots of small pieces) and the components fail unfortunately.
