Hello all,

This is my first post, & I am a super-noob when it comes to building computers. I know this has been asked before but I'm still confused. I need help with properly protecting my parts from ESD when my case is completely painted - even the screws! I cannot find any bare metal at all to attach my wrist-band to. I know some say that ESD wrist bands are not necessary, but with a fully painted case I just don't have any idea of what to do.

One thing I was thinking of doing was to insert a non-painted screw into the side panel screw hole & attach the gator clip of the wrist band to that - will this even work? I am also working with an anti-static mat from OP/Tech.

My case is the Define R4 Black Pearl from Fractal Designs. I have read other posts by owners of this case that were concerned about the conductivity of a fully painted case & how it can cause interference.

Any help is EXTREMELY appreciated!! I have all my parts for my build & this hole case thing is the only thing left to figure out.

Thank you

Gavin

Touch your power supply while it's plugged into a wall. Don't worry too much.

Could you go into more detail about that, & does it matter that the psu is also completely painted? I have a corsair cx600M

It doesn't matter if it's painted or not. Just take your PSU, attach the power cable to it, plug it into the wall, turn on the switch on the back of the PSU, and touch it. This will ground you. You can also touch a big piece of metal as well.

EDIT: Whoops I lied, if it's painted then it might not work. Don't worry too much. Just find a big piece of metal such as a chair or something. You can also Google how to ground yourself.
