Hi, I'm planning to do my first build PC during the summer and I was wondering if I can get some help on some parts and what would be recommended for CAD/Pro-E works as well as a performing gaming pc that can play games such as BF3, GW2, Crysis 2 and other modern games at Ultra to High Settings particularly at 1920x1080p.

Approximate Purchase Date: Summer 2013, July-ish

Budget Range: I'd say about 900-1400$

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Games/Home/Editing/CAD

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: All (First Build)

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon, Newegg, Ebay, anything reliable.

Location: California, San Diego Area

Parts Preferences: Intel over AMD, Nvidia over Radeon

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No/Maybe, most likely no.

Your Monitor Resolution: Don't have one, but I'd prefer to play at 1920x1080p

Additional Comments: I'd like reliable and somewhat a quiet PC that can perform well on modern games and in CAD programs such as AutoCAD and Pro-Engineer, and several photo/video editing programs like Sony Vegas and Photoshop. But most importantly, I'd prefer a PC case to look simple and clean like the Fractal Design R4, NOT a battleship.

Parts I'm considering:

-CPU-
i5 3470 or i5 3570k
I don't plan to overclock. And I think quadcore should be suffice, I personally don't like to have more than 5 programs running at once.

-Motherboard-
ATX: MSI zh77a-g43 or MSI z77a-g55 or g65
mATX: MSI zh77ma-g43 or MSI z77ma-g45
I personally can't decide between h77 or z77 and between ATX and mATX motherboards. I don't plan to overclock, nor will I plan to go SLI dual graphic cards. I personally find a single graphic card more reliable and sufficient. In addition, as you can see, I seem to like the MSI products for their BIOs User Interface etc.

-PC Chassis-
Fractal Design Define R4 or Fractal Design Define Mini
I am particularly interested on the Fractal Design Define series as they are very simple yet elegant and seemingly quiet compared to most chassis. I can't decide between ATX or mATX cases as I don't think I plan to do any water cooling or SLI set ups in the future.

-CPU Cooler-
Stock or Cooler Master Hyper TX3 or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

-Hard Drive-
1TB Western Digital Blue Caviar
I don't necessarily think black caviar from Western Digital would make a significant impact in how my files are moved around.

-Solid State Drive-
120GB Samsung 840 Series
Primarily for the OS.

-Graphic Card-
MSI GTX 650 ti Power Edition
MSI GTX 650 ti Boost Gaming
MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr

I can't decide between these three, however, I still am open to higher graphic card if budget allows. As you can see I prefer Nvidia and MSI products. I'm also looking for the best graphic card with good value to performance characteristics.

-RAM-
Corsair Vengeance 8gb to 16gb
I'm considering 16gb as I may consider allocating memory to various programs.

-Power Supply Unit-
Corsair 600cx or higher
Will consider upgrading PSU depending on the graphic card. Modular or non-modular doesn't bother me too much.

-Monitor-
Asus VS228H-P 22 Inch Full-HD
I think 22 inch would look best with 1080p

-Wireless Adapter-
Asus EA-N66 Dual Band N450

-DVD Drive-
Asus OEM Drive

-Speakers-
Cyber Acoustic Subwoofer Satellite System CA-3602a

-Keyboard-
Razer Lycosa Standard Edition
Or anything to match with my Razer Orochi Mouse that I used for my laptop.

Things I have:
Razer Orochi Mouse
Razer Carcharias Headset

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My Asus G73sw-xa1 gaming notebook is dying on me, as an assortment of problems has arisen the past 3 years. Long story...

Thanks!

with $1400.... you can get my spec... (better gpu than what you requested) (I had a samsung 24" 1080p monitor and a $120 mechanical keyboard in my build)

And since you're doing CAD/editing/etc... i would HIGHLY recommend going in for a 3770k or a 4770k when it comes out...

And i would also highly recommend waiting til june. when the new processor and graphics cards come out, you'll get a 5-10% discount on all the older hardware.

True that, however I don't think I'll necessarily be needing hyperthreading found in i7 processors as I don't think I'll be heavily multitasking then again I may be wrong. Yeah, I'll probably begin building this new PC around July, but keep in mind I'm trying to keep the rig looking clean without any unusual colors in otherwords, sacrificing the appearance for just performance. Notice that the parts I picked externally has the black and blue color scheme going on such as the blue led found from the speakers, wireless adapter, case, and monitor. But would you say this build is good enough?
