Hi, I'm having a hard time deciding between the ATX chassis or the mATX chassis. I know for a fact I like the simple clean look of the fractal design define series. I don't plan to overclock, nor do I plan to set up dual graphic cards SLI/crossfire. I do plan to game and use CAD/editing programs for this new build. I'll be placing the case on my table so I don't really want anything too overwhelmingly big next to my 22 inch monitor. Thanks!

The the mini is great. The R4 is still only an ATX mid tower so it's not as big as a standard ATX full tower. I'd go with the Fractal Design Define Arc Mini. Why? Because it has better airflow than the Define Mini. The Define Mini is a tiny margin quieter. The Arc Mini is still pretty quiet.

Ahh I see, well, I'm aiming for the define series due to the very clean look it possess; The arc mini looks great, although I'm not too fond of seeing the logo branding on top of the case. So would you say the define mini is a great chassis for my particular needs since I don't plan to go with dual graphic cards or set up anything fancy inside such as a water cooling; or is it safer to go up to the mid ATX case over the mATX one?

Depends. If you like LAN parties, the mini cases are smaller and lighter and therefore more portable. The Mid ATX cases have better airflow, but they are still quite heavy and quite a lot bigger. The Silverstone TJ08B-E case is my all time favorite MicroATX mini case. Perfect for LAN parties or even for carrying around. It has great features such as the cooler lever that holds the cooler in place (prevent the cooler from putting too much pressure by bouncing on the motherboard when you're carrying it) and a soft cushion under large GPU so they don't boggle and put stress there. A giant fan that blows straight (literally straight) at the GPU and the CPU Cooler.
