Hello, I'm looking for a fairly bare bones system for under $400 that includes monitor, keyboard and mouse. I don't wish to purchase a laptop or other mobile device at this time.

Suffice it to say I don't plan to do any heavy workloads apart from the regular web browsing, ms office and playing DVDs.

What options exist for both scenarios where I would be buying components separately and looking at integrated systems?

Thanks in advance

It's small form factor, classy, has a good upgrade path, and will do everything you're looking for. If you get windows from somewhere else, that $100 can go to a monitor.

That being said, if you have to have all that and there's no play anywhere, then like killer said, a used system would be your best bet. (Though if you have a costco membership, they have well-designed computers for pretty cheap.)

You could go for an Atom/E-350 embedded CPU option, but it probably isn't worth it.
