Hi i am thinking of getting a new computer built end of this year. As new hardware will be coming out through this year, i have just made up a build that interests me but i am not sure what motherboards are the best, i have herd that the Asus maximums V formula is very good but here is my current build idea tell me what you think and if there is better things i can go for. 2200 is my maximum price range.

Cpu I7-4770k

Graphics card - Gtx 780 or maybe 790

Motherboard - Asus Maximus for now as new ones are coming

Ram 16gb Vengeance

Might go for the Samsung SSD 128gb drive for windows unless there is a better make

1TB Hard drive Western Digital

Windows 8 home edition if its any good have read mixed reviews about it

Psu Corsair 1200w

Want to make it future proof Thanks.

You're asking us for opinions on a motherboard that hasn't been released yet? How are we supposed to say anything about it?

SSD is good, but who knows what's on the market when you'll be buying this build.

Two things:

1. It's impossible to recommend a PC based around hardware that isn't available in stores yet.

2. Post the store you're buying from and that will help to suggest parts. If you don't know one check the master sticky at the top of this forum.

It won't work with the next generation of CPUs. That motherboard is for the current generation - socket LGA 1155. The next generation will be socket LGA 1150. Plus it's ridiculously expensive when you could be buying one that's 1/2 the cost. Also you'll never need 1200W for any rig, so that PSU is a huge waste of money.

There's no such thing as entirely future proof when it comes to computers. The technology changes too fast for that. Something that's considered highend today might be mid end in half a year. 5 years for a computer, especially a gaming pc, is a long time. That being said, I doubt you'll be able to run games on high graphics with the same configuration for more than 2 years.

Yes, the new chipset for S1150 will be Z87. Asus will probably give them names like P9P87 Pro or something like that. New Maximus board will be Maximus VI Formula or something like that.

Yeah my sentiments exactly. There's no such thing as future proofing a build. Wasting £300 on a motherboard when one that costs £150 does the same job isn't going to make that happen. It just means that you've overpaid on hardware by £150. The only way in my opinion to make a build completely future proof is to evolve it as you go along and not limit yourself in terms of what hardware you are able to buy to expand your rig. That's the only way.
