Hello Community,

I joined community few minutes back.First of all sorry if I have posted this thread at wrong section.I didnt find a suitable category for my question(problem). Please move it at proper section moderators

Now my problem is I have bought a new laptop. Its HP Pavilion G6 2010ax.It has AMD Quad Core Processor A8 and USB 3.0 ports.
When i try to copy anything to my external usb 3.0 hard disk and my usb 2.0 pendrive the speed shows around 100 MB/sec but it lasts only for 2-3 sec(only when i copy file and click on paste). And then it starts downgrading and it reaches 10 MB/sec finally :(  ..I checked properly all usb 3.0 drivers are installed. It shows "AMD USB 3.0 Host Controller"

The hard disk present in laptop is TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB 5400 RPM.(is it beacuse of hard disk) or is their some other problem.

Please help me :(

Your pendrive is USB 2.0. That has a maximum speed of 10 Mbps. So that behaviour is justified.

What is your external HDD?

Just because USB3 can support 5Gbit/s doesnt mean your devices can take advantage of that bandwidth. A wider highway wont make a car move faster unless the highway is already clogged.

And with the pendrive, as has been mentioned its USB2, wont benefit from USB3's added bandwidth.

USB3 isnt inherently faster than USB2, it just has a larger amount of bandwidth meaning it can be faster if the device can use that extra bandwidth.
Just because its got a USB3 plug doesnt mean the HDD itself can perform fast enough to use it.

Can you tell me the name of your hard drive? For e.g. Seagate Backup Plus 1 TB HDD. That will help me understand the specifications of the HDD and then maybe I can tell you what is happening?
