I need help with upgrading my current rig. I currently have a B75MA-E33 LGA 1155 motherboard with nvidia gtx 550ti 1gb graphics, and Celeron G1610 2.6GHz LGA 1155 CPU. I already plan to upgrade the CPU with a AMD Phenom X4 9650 Quad Core AM2, but I need to upgrade my motherboard in order to do so.

I don't think a first generation phenom 1 is an upgrade. If anything its a massive downgrade from that celeron.

there is a Phenom x4 9650 AM2 CPU (really old, massive downgrade from your celeron)

and a Phenom II x4 965 AM3 CPU (sorta old, sorta a lateral move in some cases from your celeron, in other its an upgrade)

Can you recommend a good CPU then? I'm new to PC gaming, so I don't really know what's good, and what's bad.

I found a AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.2Ghz Processor for a good price online. Judging by the reviews on newegg, it seems to be doing nicely on current games.

If you already have a Socket 1155, I would not swap proc manufacturers. I have a FX-8150 in my rig and it's a beast, but since you already have a current gen board I would just upgrade your proc. I would recommend an i5 so you won't feel the need to upgrade again anytime soon. Least expensive one I can see is this ($169.99+ shipping after promo):

It will be cheaper than buying a motherboard and proc and you'll thank yourself when you experience the difference.

you've already got an LGA 1155 motherboard.

get yourself an i5-2500k, or an i5-3570k.

you won't need to replace the mb, and you should be able to game.
