Hello i bought a new CPU it is amd athlon 64x2 5000+ 2.6ghz the problem.is thats its temp are pretty high.I used to have single core amd athlon 64 3800+OC 2.6ghz and its idle temp were around 30C,im using heatsink from single core cpu on my newer dual core.I belive i applied too much thermal paste i spreaded it around the cpu evenly and its aboug 1mm thick, should i re apply it but only to put a dot in the center?

Solution
change the cooler to a better one and reapply paste with a small pea size dot in the center of the cpu. the cooler you are trying to use will not dissipate the heat the duel core is generating. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo will work well for what you are doing @ $25-$29 USD.

Fist off that cooler is designed to cool a single core not a dual core that produces twice as much heat. Second that is entirely too much paste, clean all that off of there and use a small pea sized amount in the center of the cpu and then attach the cooler.

I didn't buy 212 evo as there was none in my local stores so i bought the Zalman one that looked like 212 evo.
Now my temps. are 38 C when browsing the internet and when under max. load its 50 C.

I still have my old cpu fan so is it possible to convert it to be a small case fan?
