I am having a little problem when I switch to 'full screen' mode on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 15R Special Ed. Win 8) I'm not quite sure if it's either the brightness or contrast, or both, but I'm not sure how to fix this without changing the same settings for non-full screen programs.

Below are example screen shots, showing what happens when switching to full screen:

Not sure if it will help to diagnose , but what web browser do you use? Do you get the same on other browsers or watching a DVD disc or your own video files ?

Just keep in mind that online clips like youtube use Flah player, but your own video files will use your video card driver.

If so, I would have a look at the graphic driver settings, it may have some settings for video playback

I use Firefox, had a look on Chrome, where this problem does not occur. Neither does it on non-web videos.

If there is a way to sort this, that would be amazing. I love Firefox!

Im surprised to see that it works well on chrome. I use firefox too. The only thing I can think of is flash player. Try un installing flash player from the computer. Then try deleting completely any cache, history cookies from firefox. Then restart it and download flash again.

I was surprised too. I've followed the steps you said but to no avail. I'm stumped and a little annoyed, I don't want to switch to another browser!
