GPU for Core 2 Quad Q9550

My friend is looking to upgrade his GPU on an older platform. He currently has a Geforce GTX 295 running with a Core 2 Quad Q9550. Anyone have a a good suggestion/recommendation for a more modern GPU that would run well with this CPU?

personally if you don't plan on upgrading/replacing the PC for another 1/2- 2 years then I would save a little money and get a sub $200 card maybe a 7870/GTX 660.

Opps read that as a 260 for some reason anyways so you probably need a 670/7970 to really see any improvement in graphic though your CPU would be holding you back.
